The rest of the Archean basement in Finland belongs to the Western Karelia sub-province where the ages of the oldest rocks are up to 3.5 Ga.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:15px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The major parts of the craton in eastern Finland mostly consist of 2.90-2.70 Ga tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite (TTG), 2.75-2.72 Ga sanukitoid, 2.71-2.69 Ga granodiorite-granite-monzonite (GGM), 2.90-2.70\u00a0 Ga paragneiss complexes, as well as greenstone belts with mafic-ultramafic volcanic rocks and sediments of 2.95-2.75 Ga ages. These complexes and belts suffered lower amphibolite to granulite facies peak metamorphism\u00a0 between 2.68-2.62 Ga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Orogenic gold deposits in the Archean basement of the Karelian domain are confined to the north-south trending greenstone belts and forms three major metallogenic provinces, e.g. Ilomantsi, Kuhmo and Oij\u00e4rvi provinces. Direct dating of gold deposition in these provinces are lacking. However, due to the exploration and mining interest, the geochronological database allows to infer the most probably timing of formation of orogenic gold deposits in the Ilomantsi province.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:15px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-664 size-400\" style=\"margin-right: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/minsysfin.gtk.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2F3_re-edit_noframe-400x752.png\" alt=\"Hattu schist belt, Ilomantsi orogenic gold province.\" title=\"Hattu schist belt, Ilomantsi orogenic gold province.\" width=\"350\" height=\"752\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the strongly mineralized Hattu schist belt (Ilomantsi province), the emplacement of 2.76-2.71 Ga syntectonic tonalite-granodiorite intrusions and felsic porphyry dikes was associated with Mo-W-Au mineralization and subsequent gold deposition along the major shear zones. U-Pb zircon data from mineralized felsic dikes at the Pampalo deposit suggest 2.71 Ga for the gold mineralization event. The hydrothermal zones were recrystallized and deformed under upper greenschist-lower amphibolite facies conditions which confirms that formation of orogenic gold deposits took place prior to the 2.68-2.62 Ga peak metamorphism.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_2 1_2 fusion-one-half fusion-column-last\" style=\"width:50%;width:calc(50% - ( ( 4% ) * 0.5 ) );margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:20px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\" style=\"background-position:left top;background-repeat:no-repeat;-webkit-background-size:cover;-moz-background-size:cover;-o-background-size:cover;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;\"><span class=\" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-1 hover-type-none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/minsysfin.gtk.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2F2-1030x842.png\" class=\"fusion-lightbox\" data-rel=\"iLightbox[8f2b52cd47635f68f0c]\" data-title=\"Distribution of K-Ar ages for hornblende and biotite from the Archean rocks of the Karelian domain in eastern Finland.\" title=\"Distribution of K-Ar ages for hornblende and biotite from the Archean rocks of the Karelian domain in eastern Finland.\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1308\" alt=\"Distribution of K-Ar ages for hornblende and biotite from the Archean rocks of the Karelian domain in eastern Finland.\" src=\"https:\/\/minsysfin.gtk.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2F2-e1563954328107.png\" class=\"img-responsive wp-image-492\"\/><\/a><\/span><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:15px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p>The Archean basement of eastern Finland was also affected by Paleoproterozoic deformation and upper greenschist-lower amphibolite facies retrograde metamorphism during the Svecofennian orogeny at around 1.80 Ga.
